Are you feeling overwhelmed by stress? Do obstacles keep getting in the way of your personal and professional growth? Maybe people annoy you more than you'd like to admit. Maybe you even annoy yourself. And then these pesky thoughts get in the way of being who you really want to be, and achieving what you really want and deserrve to achieve.
Many of us face these challenges daily, and finding an effective solution can often seem daunting. We might go to a workshop here or there, read (a lot of) self-development books, even meditate regularly. All great tools to have in our toolbelt, no question.
But if you're anything like me, a few days after the workshop, book, or latest meditation, or life-changing podcast episode, the mojo for change fades, and I just end up forgetting most of what I've learned--even if I really, really, really liked it and got a lot out of it. Turns out, none of us are alone in this.
According to the "forgetting curve," developed by Hermann Ebbinghaus, we forget a significant portion of information shortly after learning it unless we take steps to reinforce our memory. Shortly after learning, we can forget up to 50% of the information within an hour if we do not actively try to remember it. And that forgetting continues because over the next 24 hours, we may forget up to 70-80% of the information. Gulp, right?
This is where Positive Intelligence (PQ) can make a significant difference.
What is Positive Intelligence?
Positive Intelligence, or PQ, is a mental fitness program designed to enhance wellness, performance, and positive relationships. The core idea behind PQ is to build new neural pathways that foster sustained positive change in your mindset. By focusing on mental fitness, PQ helps you shift from negative, self-sabotaging thoughts (called Saboteurs) to positive, empowering thoughts (known as Sage).
The Science Behind PQ
The principles of Positive Intelligence are grounded in neuroscience, psychology, and performance science. Research has shown that our brains have the ability to change and adapt—this concept is known as neuroplasticity. By consistently practicing specific mental exercises, we can rewire our brains to respond more positively to challenges and stressors.
One key aspect of PQ is identifying and managing our Saboteurs. These are the automatic, negative thought patterns that undermine our happiness and success. Through the PQ program, participants start with a Saboteur Assessment to identify their top Saboteurs, which sets the stage for personalized mental fitness training.
On the flip side, the program encourages the development of Sage powers. These are positive mental muscles that enable us to respond to life’s challenges with clarity, creativity, and calm. Strengthening these mental muscles involves regular practice and application of specific techniques, which are backed by scientific studies on mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and positive psychology.
How PQ Benefits Individuals and Groups
On a personal level, PQ helps individuals build resilience, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. By shifting the mental balance from Saboteurs to Sage, people can improve their performance, deepen their relationships, and find greater satisfaction in their daily lives.
In group dynamics, PQ fosters a more collaborative and positive environment. When individuals within a team practice PQ, they bring a more constructive and solution-oriented mindset to their interactions. This can lead to improved communication, better conflict resolution, and stronger teamwork. Scientific studies have shown that teams with higher collective mental fitness perform better and exhibit greater cohesion and morale.
A Practical, Lifelong Framework
One of the most compelling aspects of PQ is its practicality and accessibility. The program is designed to fit into busy schedules with daily 15-minute exercises and weekly focus sessions. Using the PQ app, participants can easily integrate these practices into their routines, ensuring consistent progress and reinforcement of new habits.
Moreover, the skills developed through the PQ program have lifelong applications. Whether in personal life or professional settings, the ability to manage negative thoughts and cultivate a positive mindset is invaluable.
Join the Positive Intelligence Journey
I am excited to guide a small group of individuals through a 6-week PQ Program starting on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. This program offers a unique opportunity to experience the transformative power of PQ in a supportive and collaborative setting. If you’re interested in learning more about how PQ can benefit you and your group, please feel free to reach out.
By understanding and applying the principles of Positive Intelligence, we can unlock our full potential and lead more fulfilling, balanced lives. Let’s embark on this journey together and see the difference PQ can make.
